    Linguistic Resources & Tools

Linguistics is narrowly defined as the scientific approach to the study of language, but language can be approached from a variety of directions, therefore a number of other intellectual disciplines are relevant to it and influence its study. Linguist Resources means, resources for the purpose of assisting linguists in their fieldwork, study and research. These resources include textbooks, electronic and printed reference materials, corpora, dictionary, ontology, font’s etc software for linguistic data management and analysis. Resources can be organized hierarchically at multiple levels and as technology progresses more resources may be identified or more levels may be created. Presently resources can be categorised under three types of resources:

    A) Enabling Resources: Enabling Resources includes, Input method, Output method and Representation Standards.
    B) Language Resources: Language Resources refer to data-only resources such as lexicons, corpora, thesauri, dictionary, linguist analyser, etc. language Resources can be on-line or off-line resources.
    C) Processing Resources: Processing Resources refers to search engine, speech recognizer, translator, grammar checker, word predictor, spell-checker, semantic parser etc.
